an announcement on the official web-site of jehovah's witnesses is causing some 'eyebrows to be raised'.. the watchtower society have announced that they "avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the scriptures, and they do not follow traditions that contradict bible teachings.
emphasis is placed on personal application of bible principles and the value of a sound, bible-based conscience.. this comes as a surprise to many thousands in the jehovah's witness community who have become accustomed to the changing rules and regulations imposed compulsorily on its members.. it should be noted in the watchtower society's statement that "emphasis is placed on personal application of bible principles".

This is nothing new, they have always said that the organization does not live my laws but principles. They have always preached that they get their guidance from the scriptures. All Christian religions say the same thing but we have thousands of different faiths that intrepid the bible their own way. It just shows that you can interrupt the bible anyway you want. Good example is the blood issue. Why is it that the Jdubs are the only ones that don't take blood? How can anyone, in the first place, live their lives today in the 21 century on a book (a book full of myths, legends and superstitions) that was written and rewritten thousands of times?

The bottom line here is who really gives a crap about a small insignificant cult like the Jdubs.. Unfortunately because Dateline may not find this news worthy, after the Catholic scandal, they will probably decide not to air it. The bottom line is ratings and money and who gives a dam about a few innocent children.

You can try and talk to your friend but be very careful. A good Jdub is so indoctrinated that if they feel any hint of you questioning there beliefs system, the red light will go on and they will back off. They will brand you as an apostate and turn you into the elders. I feel that the reason why cult type of behavior is so defensive is because they’re whole beliefs system is based on one of faith. The cult members own confidence is shaky to begin with but they have been indoctrinated so much to believe this is the "truth". Why would big brother lie to us? Look what they have done for us? It must be the truth so you are a liar!!!
For one in a cult to decide to leave means to give up everything in their life. To find out that all these years what they have been saying and believing is all a bunch of lies. The best way like someone on this post mentioned, is to raise questions that gets them to start to question themselves. Allow them to come to their own conclusions but be prepared that they may still defend the belief over rational thinking.

1. guilt.
What about the street witnessing? or what ever they call it now. When I was a teenager, all the pioneers in the congregation would get half their hours standing on a street corner. I mean really a waste of time. Most people would just ignore you and think you were a bunch of idiots.
I know here at the bus stop, I have seen a couple of dubs standing they’re handing out their rags. They had a whole stack of older issues and as you walked by they would hand them out. It must sound impressive at the service meeting to brag about how many mags that were handed out. Anyway if you walk around the corner and see all the Wackytowers and Asleeps all over the ground or thrown on the buses. Some witness that is. I bet the garbage man reads them because that would be the only one that might read them.

in a conversation with my son, we were going over all the young people he grew up with that were jws.
there seemed to be an inordinate proportion of felons among them, compared to the "worldly" people in his school.
and also compared to the people at work that i know whose kids are doing fine now.. our tentative theory is that raising kids as jws can be very damaging to many of them.
In my own case I was a goodie two shoe's growing up. The only problem with that is that I was not taught any social skills and was too trusting with people. I learned the hard way to deal with non spiritual minded people. Not what the dubs taught me, for they don't teach you any life skills that are necessary to get along in life. I had to learn these skills the hard way. That is fine to talk about being good etc. to get into paradise but the organization has a tendency to be too over protective of the young ones. So its either be a goodie two shoes and get pushed around or live a double life and fit in.

i have read, heard and felt everyones posts here on what it feels like to be shunned.. if i was an ego maniac, so focused on my own everlasting, selfish survival, i could understand the 'power'.. but who of us here want to believe that?
In my experience, even after you have been reinstated, most of the dubs still treat you differently.
